It's time to get ready to soar. This week we are consolidating our learning on a few areas we have finished covering in class. Like our first topic in maths - Integers. We will have developed our character for our historical narratives so it's now time to start writing and let our imaginations run free - however, we must remember to stick to the accurate historical facts from that time period.

What's happening this term?
Dear
Parents and Caregivers,
Welcome
back to Term Two! We hope you and your
family had an enjoyable and restful Easter holiday. Term Two is a very busy term with only ten
weeks of school and therefore the students of Year Six have already started to
work hard to ensure they complete their work this term.
Term Two Units of Work
This
term in Religion the students will be examining Judaism. Students will complete an inquiry based
research task, investigating five different Jewish holy days and
festivals. They must demonstrate their
knowledge of the holy days by completing a ‘Jewish Scrapbook’ using assigned
resources.
In
English the students will be exploring the narrative genre. In History the students will be learning about
immigration in Australia post World War II, with a particular focus on Jewish migration
trends. The students will then use this
information to write a historical narrative in character, as a Jewish
individual who has migrated to Australia post World War Two. The student’s
stories are expected to be interesting, descriptive and historically accurate.
In
Geography, as
part of a study on how students are connected to other places, students will
participate in an investigation linking the connections of Year Six students to
other places through birth. This inquiry will include surveying class members,
collating their findings in a table, constructing graphs to display their
findings, locating countries on a map and summarising their findings.
The
Year Six students will also be completing a Chemical Science unit where they
will be investigating chemical changes of various substances through various
experiments throughout the term. There
will be a focus on reversible changes that can be carried out on certain
materials and how this concept can be utilised in recycling.
Interschool Sport & Dance Fever
This
term we continue with interschool sport games and training. Training is on at school each Thursday morning
at 8am sharp. Interschool sport will
continue on Friday afternoons and students are expected to wear their full
sports uniform to school and only change into their jersey at game time.
This
term we will be participating in Dance Fever on a Tuesday. Students are expected to view these lessons as
a part of their curriculum and therefore are expected to give their best
efforts. Students are expected to
participate unless they have a legitimate reason with a note from home.
Reports & Parent Teacher
Interviews
Report
cards will be sent home at the end of Term Two. Teachers will also be conducting interviews
near the end of this term (9th
and 10th June). This is a wonderful chance to discuss with the
teacher/s your child’s progress. However, if you have any questions or concerns
before then please contact your child’s teacher to make an appointment to
discuss your concerns.
The
Year Six teachers would like to thank you for a wonderful start to the year and
a fantastic first term. We look forward
to the term ahead and thank you for your ongoing support.
Yours sincerely,
The Year Six Teachers
